So we got this email from Derek Buckham, about his band Tokyo Rose, “the Cover Girl of ROCK". What a statement! He asked us to check it out. And we did. And I felt it should be featured on 3Yen. Better than “Turning Japanese” by The Vapors, and Alphaville’s “Big In Japan", Tokyo Rose is everything you expect from the 80’s.

The site features mp3 files to download, but it is really the video that you must watch. Enjoy it here now! (The download is very slow but it is worth it, believe me. Up until the very last frame.)

TOKYO ROSE
Dry Your Eyes - CD Single

I don't know if you have ever heard the name Tokyo Rose before, but I had! Having the chance to musically "grow up" in an environment full of people and friends who dig the old and classic rock/metal scene, you always get the chance to be open in a wider variety of sounds and bands. You have the possibility to come across, elite bands that had an incredible impact in the underground scene of that era, but due to unknown and difficult to understand reasons, they never had the chance to win this major contract deal that would travel them aces high in the worldwide music business and offer them plenty of recognition. Thus, I had the chance to be aware of a great UK based band that listens to the name Tokyo Rose, but unfortunately till recently I hadn't had the luck to hear any of their songs. Now the time has come and I truly feel extremely lucky, because this 4 track single is a true and original diamond! I am astound by the performance of the vocalists, both male and female who have stunning warm, passionate and emotive voices. They made me close my eyes, push the repeat button over and over again and listen to them and the compositions in amazement! Their music can't be easily described or labeled, but I'd say that it is melodic rock of the 80s with great keyboards, catchy sweet guitar riffs and a true rock 'n' roll vibe and attitude. Yeah! I think melodic rock 'n' roll is the best I can offer you! I truly adored this release and I hope from the depths of  my heart that Tokyo Rose will finally manage to sign a decent and huge deal cause they deserve it. Besides, keep in mind that this is a very devoted, in their music, band and things couldn't have been differently since Tokyo Rose exist since 1980. Amazing isn't it? I'd advice you all to get a copy of this CD single but the thing is that it has already gained a cult status and its price is £100, which is expensive for most of us. I know... However, if you have the money, then don't think twice! For the rest of you, well you can visit the band's site, where you'll have the chance to listen to some of their songs for free. If a record label reads this review, I'd tell them to do themselves a favor and sign this band!

A quarter of the century after the first bloom, the thorns are still as sharp.

It's a rare thing - to have your songs covered but to not cover others' material, in a studio or live. Ever. So this English band are unique. Which is great. What's not so great is the fact that the group, formed in 1980, never had a major record deal. But they're still here, with original members Derek Buckham and Val Ophield, and they have some great music to offer. You can visit www.tokyorose.biz to listen to the EP and see what the guys are up to now. You could call it post punk if "Tokyo Rose" the song didn't bear THE KINKS' jolly English imprint. It simply rocks and elegantly jives, though not as hard as "You'll Hang Jack". "Go For Gold" is contrastingly dramatic and, while the theme is the Olympic games, the real subject might read as TOKYO ROSE life philosophy. They're not THE JAM, but they deserve to be well-ers.
